Our Iyya embarked on a seven-day journey to Malaya from Chennai aboard the SS Rajula in 1953—a voyage affectionately known as the "Madras Mail". He initially joined Tamil Nesan as a sub-editor but soon moved to Singapore in 1954 to work as a sub-editor for Tamil Murasu. In 1957, Valliammai Achi, his beloved wife, made the journey to Singapore, bringing their daughter Ponni with her. Their three sons followed in the late '50s to early '60s. In 1962, our Iyya returned to Malaya to become Chief Editor of Tamil Nesan, where he transformed it into Malaysia's leading Tamil daily newspaper. This marked the beginning of his life in, and love for, Malaysia.

This gallery showcases the remarkable travels of our Iyya, a man whose wanderlust knew no bounds. Iyya's journeys were far more than mere sightseeing expeditions; they were diplomatic missions and professional engagements that spanned continents and cultures. During the Cold War, he journeyed to Egypt to provide press coverage for the 1961 Preparatory Meeting of the Non-Aligned Countries. He also visited the UK at the invitation of the Commonwealth Information Office and explored Tashkent and Moscow at the behest of the Soviet government. In 1964, Iyya attended the Afro-Asian Conference of Non-Aligned Countries in Algeria. Perhaps most notably, in 1974, he was part of the original delegation accompanying Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein on his historic inaugural visit to China.
